GRE General Test to Change
New test is expected to be friendlier, more flexible
Beginning in August 2011, Educational Testing Services (ETS) will replace the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test with the GRE Revised General Test, which is expected to be a friendlier and more flexible exam that is better focused on the skills needed to succeed in graduate and business school.
Graduate school applicants will see changes to the test’s content, design and scoring.
This year, prospective graduate students should be aware of the following key dates:
- If applicants are applying to schools that require GRE scores before November, they must take the current GRE General Test before August. Applicants should register now for the current test to get their preferred test date and test location.
- If applicants do not need their GRE scores until after November, they should take the GRE Revised General Test when it begins in August. Applicants taking the revised test will be able to experience the new friendly design and will save 50 percent on the test fee if they take the revised test between August 1 and September 30, 2011. - If applicants are not sure when their targeted schools require GRE scores, they should contact the schools to find out.
Registration for the GRE Revised General Test is now open. The first administration of the GRE Revised General Test is scheduled for August 1. Score reports for tests taken in August and September will be provided by mid-November. Score reports for tests taken in October and November will be provided according to ETS’ detailed score reporting schedule. Normal score reporting (10-15 days after test date) resumes in December.
