UTSA’s Innovative Summer Science and Engineering Camps Break the Mold
Interactive Technology Experience Center to offer three dozen summer camps
Kindergarteners through eighth graders from the greater San Antonio region are invited to enroll in one or more weeklong summer camps that will be offered by The University of Texas at San Antonio Interactive Technology Experience Center (iTEC) with the generous support of the AT&T Foundation. The camps are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Monday, June 6th at the UTSA Main Campus. Costs vary by camp. Please see iTEC’s events page for details.
ITEC’s 2011 summer camps include:
- Rumble in the Jungle (Grades K-2)
- In this camp kids will have hours of fun building and programming robotic animals that crawl, dance and sing. Join iTEC for a roaring robotic adventure! Click here for available dates
- It’s Alive (Grades 3-5)
- In this camp kids will build and program Frankenbots using old scavenged robot parts and sensors. Come help your Frankenbot escape the angry villagers! Click here for available dates
- How the Cookie Crumbles (Grades 3-5)
- In this camp kids will learn about forensic evidence as they track down a chocolate chip cookie thief. Help iTEC catch the cookie thief and bring them to justice! Click here for available dates
- Forces of Nature (Grades 3-5)
- In this camp kids will learn about weather prediction tools and the effects of weather on our environment. Join iTEC as we become expert Meteorologists, and build your own weather station to take home with you! Click here for available dates
- Off to a Flying Start (Grades 3-5)
- In this camp kids will learn about the high-flying world of aeronautics. Blast off with iTEC on this high-flying adventure! Click here for available dates
- Gold Rush (Grades 6-8)
- This camp will challenge kids to find troves of gold using treasure-hunting robots. Join iTEC as we hunt for treasure in an ancient Mayan temple! Click here for available dates
- Area 51 Mystery (Grades 6-8)
- In this camp kids will learn about forensic evidence as they search for research scientist Dr. Zorba, who vanished into thin air while working on an alien flugometer. Help iTEC rescue Dr. Zorba! Click here for available dates
- Operation: Clean Sweep (Grades 6-8)
- Set in the year 2098, this camp requires kids to provide speedy solutions for catastrophic events using only common materials. Come help iTEC save our planet! Click here for available dates

- This camp will focus on ancient flying devices and the inventors who dreamed of them. Come learn about our past as well as our future! Click here for available dates
Students attending any of iTEC’s summer camps should bring a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration on each day of camp. In addition, after-camp care is available until 5:30 p.m. for children of all ages at a nominal $10/day fee upon request.
The UTSA iTEC was established in 2007 by a four-year, $1.5 million grant from the AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T. ITEC’s mission is to inspire youth by creating an environment where they can understand how engineering, science and technology shape our lives and the future of our world. Its focus areas include robotics, telecommunications, scanning electron microscope applications and design for manufacturing.
