Business and engineering students at UTSA are competing today for $100,000 in business-related services and prizes at San Antonio’s largest business planning competition, UTSA’s $100,000 New Technology Venture Competition. The biannual competition, hosted by UTSA’s Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE), promotes student entrepreneurship by pairing engineering students who create viable new technologies with business students who create business plans to market those technologies through a viable start-up.
The University of Texas at San Antonio announced today the appointment of Les Shephard, a nationally recognized expert who often speaks before U.S. Congress on energy and water issues, to head its Institute for Conventional, Alternative and Renewable Energy (ICARE). Shephard will assume his role as director of the UTSA Institute effective April 15, 2010.
Dedicated to exploring new and innovative energy solutions, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) announced today it has joined the Energy Research Alliance of San Antonio, established in June by The University of Texas at San Antonio, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and CPS Energy. The four organizations will collaborate to define and implement new and alternative strategies for the development of energy technology.
This fall, the UTSA College of Engineering welcomes five new faculty members to its staff who bring a wealth of academic, research and industry experiences to the college.

Mo Jamshidi, UTSA’s Lutcher Brown Endowed Chair of Electrical Engineering, will deliver a two-hour lecture tomorrow by video-conference about System of Systems Engineering. The video-conference will be broadcast live to researchers in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Madrid, Spain. UTSA students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend.
